Our Mission

Summer Games Camp seeks to create a safe environment where children are surrounded by God’s love in such a way that they are encouraged to seek or deepen their relationship with Jesus Christ.

Our Vision

Summer Games Camp is a Christian camping experience designed to help youth begin and develop an active and life changing relationship with Jesus Christ. Summer Games Camp is an experience where biblical events and practices are shown through creative worship experiences such as invitational opportunities to receive Christ as our Lord and Savior, prayer service, crucifixion pageant, etc. Centered on these experiential worship services, biblical teaching and the leadership provided by a staff of volunteers, Summer Games Camp encourages young people to live their life based on the great commission of Jesus Christ.

Our Goals

For each individual to value themselves and others as children of the Creator.

To allow Christ to use the staff as Christian leaders.

To keep our youth involved in church and their relationship growing in Christ.

Our Vehicle

Give equal weight to physical, spiritual and emotional growth by no-skill games, worship, praise and teaching by developing relational skills in huddles (resembling small families).

Huddle Leaders (usually ages sixteen and up) provide support, guidance, parenting, encouragement as well as active participation and observation in all activities. Campers are entering fourth through tenth grade (ages eight through sixteen). Ninth and tenth graders are eligible to become huddle assistants (huddle leaders in training). If there are not enough suitable older huddle leaders available, tenth graders may be used as huddle leaders if they are at least the age of fifteen by the start of camp.

Two huddle leaders, along with required adult staff, provide at least five or more support people available for each camper. A huddle leader girl and a huddle leader boy are paired and parent the huddle during the day, providing individual attention at a maximum ratio of three campers to one huddle leader. The huddle eats, plays games and worships together. The ratio of campers to cabin leaders is four to one. Cabin huddle leaders and adult cabin counselors provide nighttime supervisions and personal attention.

Intentional opportunities to encounter Christ personally are provided through worship, prayer, praise, special speakers, witnessing by huddle leaders and staff, games, evening programs and music. Within these events are times for personal commitment to Christ.

Evening programs include the opportunity for commitment to Christ on at least one evening during the week. Special music, concerts, skits, activities and speakers in the evenings. The Crucifixion Reenactment is in the evening on the last night of camp and the Resurrection Service and Communion is in the morning on the last day of camp. Each of these programs ends on a worshipful and prayerful note.

There is intentional exposure to the variety of calls to ministry including pastoral, Christian education, music and other professional ministry as well as the ministry of parenting, caring, teaching and way of life.

An important aspect of Summer Games is that the huddle leaders are close enough in age to the campers to serve as role models and peers. Giving youth the opportunity to be responsible for themselves and those younger and to develop Christian leadership. Statistics indicate a top reason for youth leaving the church is linked to not having responsibility. Youth experience leadership as huddle leaders and camp staff by increasing their awareness of their responsibility as a role model to those younger and their peers. Adult staff (ages twenty-two and older) are in close proximity to the age of huddle leaders to be able to provide support and help. Huddle leader training is provided prior to camp at a weekend retreat and other specific training sessions.
